The Movember Foundation is the only global charity to champion men’s health – covering everything from mental health and suicide prevention to awareness for men’s cancers such as prostate and testicular cancer.
Originally founded in 2003 in Australia with a group of just thirty men – aka Mo Bros – now, Movember helps to fund over 1250 men’s health projects globally – shaking up health research for men’s health and transforming the way health services reach and support men. They raise their funds through an international army of Mo Bros growing a mustache for the month of November and badgering colleagues, friends, and family for sponsorship on Facebook.

Getting Involved in Movember
There are three main ways you can get involved and helps raise funds and awareness this November:
‘grow a mo, save a bro’
- Gro a MO – Patchy, lopsided, itchy or epic – whatever Mo you grow this Movember, your face will raise funds and awareness for men’s health. Sign up for Movember and help raise funds by bugging your friends and family on Facebook all month. Be sure to document your progress.
- MOVE FOR MOVEMBER – Take the move challenge whilst getting physically fit; once you’ve signed up, you can set your own personal Move challenge from learning to rock climb to running a marathon or working out in a fancy-dress costume, all whilst raising funds. You could also commit to running or walking 60km over the month, at your own pace. That’s 60km for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world.
- HOST A MO-MENT– once you sign up, rally everyone together and do something fun to help raise funds however you like. For example, you could organize a dance-off, dinner party, golf or football tournament, or just a fabulous party!

Moustache Growing Tips for Movember
Cleaning:
To keep your moustache in tip-top condition, you’ll want to start ours with a cleanse. Wash your mo with a little shampoo and some warm water, then rinse away. After patting dry, moisturize your face and mo. Treating your moustache as you would your skin is the key to good facial hair. Moisturizers will help keep both your skin and your facial hair smooth and soft.
If you’re stuck trying to find which products to use – and why wouldn’t you be, there are hundreds out there – our recommend investing in a Beard Oil. Shaping:
After you’ve moisturized, comb your moustache with a small fine-tooth comb to help detangle any knots and drive hair growth in the right direction. This will make it easier to cut any stray hairs that aren’t behaving. If you need the extra help to style it (maybe it’s already longer than you imagined!) use a hairdryer to help warm the hairs and keep them in place – it will help give your moustache a natural fullness. Trim stray hairs or any that give you an untidy appearance.
Styling:
Styling a mo, whether it is a handlebar or natural style, is key to making sure you don’t look unkempt. Take a small amount of Moustache Wax and rub it between your thumb and index finger to warm the wax and help it become pliable enough to apply and style the hair. Work the wax starting from the middle of the moustache, just under the nose, and outwards. If you’ve got ends that need twizzling into shape, do that too! Our Moustache Wax is the must-have product for any serious moustache wearer – it will help the moustache stay in place all day long, and the beeswax will condition and moisturize the hair.
Stubble:
Getting your stubble to a full moustache takes time and patience. It could be considered cheating to do this, but if you grow out your whole beard out and once it reaches a suitable length, shave the rest of the face leaving just the hairs on the upper lip.
Growth:
This is the hardest part – growing a mo and getting past the dreaded itchy phase. It can make or break for most men growing a moustache or beard, and often the time when people tap out and shave again. But power through. Make sure you keep moisturizing the areas that are itchy, to help soothe the irritation. Use oil or moisturizer, rubbing into the moustache with enough pressure to effectively work it into the skin beneath the hairs. Use a comb to scratch the small itches – better than using your fingers which can pick up infections and cause you to get zits in the mo!
Maintenance:
The most important thing is making sure your moustache is the star. Keep the rest of the face clean-shaven. Applying Beard Oil and Moustache Wax will help reduce the need for maintenance – keeping it soft and tickly, rather than rough and itchy. Depending on the speed of hair growth, trim the moustache every week to two weeks – and keep an eye for strays.
Trimming:
Trimming the moustache is a daunting experience. Follow the line closest to your lip with a small pair of moustache or barbering scissors. If you follow this line, you will ensure you don’t create jagged or uneven edges. Unless you’re going for a walrus look, you’ll want your hair to reach the top of your lip and not overhang onto the lips.
